Details

The Koenders Single Diaphragm Windmill Aeration System uses nothing but the wind to keep your pond healthy. As the windmill turns, it drives a bottom-mounted air compressor that pushes oxygen to the bottom of your pond through a submerged airstone. This bottom-up aeration circulates the entire water column, prevents stratification and stagnant water, and helps stop pond turnover and winter fish kills, all with no electricity and no chemicals.

The single diaphragm system is ideal for smaller ponds up to about 1 acre and depths up to 25 feet. It runs a single airstone diffuser and begins producing air in winds as low as 3 to 5 mph.

Features and benefits

  • Wind powered, with no electricity or ongoing energy costs
  • Bottom-up aeration that is far more effective than surface aeration
  • Ideal for ponds up to 1 acre and depths up to 25 feet
  • Runs a single airstone diffuser and operates in low winds (3 to 5 mph)
  • Helps prevent stagnant water, pond turnover and fish kills
  • Galvanized tower and components built for harsh outdoor conditions
  • Backed by a full 1 year warranty

What is included

Every Single Diaphragm system includes the windmill head with a 24 inch blade and tail box, a single diaphragm air compressor, an airstone diffuser, a foot valve, and 100 feet of 3/8 inch polytubing airline. Taller towers add stacking tower box sections:

  • 12 ft: 8 ft and 12 ft tower boxes
  • 16 ft: 8, 12 and 16 ft tower boxes
  • 20 ft: 8, 12, 16 and 20 ft tower boxes
  • 24 ft: 8, 12, 16, 20 and 24 ft tower boxes

Choosing your tower height

Taller towers reach cleaner, steadier wind, so choose based on your site. Open, exposed sites can use a shorter tower, while sites with trees, buildings or rolling terrain benefit from a taller tower to clear the turbulence. If you are unsure, contact our team and we will help you size the right system.

How it compares

Bottom-up windmill aeration vs. surface aeration

Surface fountains and floating aerators move water at the top of the pond, while a windmill system oxygenates from the bottom up. Here is how the two approaches differ.

Common approach

Surface aeration

  • Treats mostly the top layer of the water
  • Leaves the deeper water and pond bottom less oxygenated
  • Circulates less of the full water column
  • Less effective at reaching the bottom of the pond

This system

Single diaphragm windmill

  • Pushes oxygen to the bottom of the pond through a submerged airstone
  • Circulates the entire water column and prevents stratification
  • Runs on wind alone with no electricity or ongoing energy costs
  • Helps prevent stagnant water, pond turnover and fish kills

Why windmill aeration

Healthier water, powered by the wind

The Single Diaphragm Windmill Aeration System uses nothing but the wind to keep smaller ponds oxygenated and clear, with no electricity and no chemicals.

Wind powered, no electricity

As the windmill turns it drives a bottom-mounted air compressor, so there are no electricity or ongoing energy costs. It begins producing air in winds as low as 3 to 5 mph.

Bottom-up aeration

Oxygen is pushed to the bottom of your pond through a submerged airstone. This bottom-up approach is far more effective than surface aeration and circulates the entire water column.

Prevents turnover and fish kills

Continuous circulation prevents stratification and stagnant water, and helps stop pond turnover and winter fish kills.

Chemical free

The system keeps your pond healthy using only air and circulation, with no chemicals added to the water.

Sized for smaller ponds

Ideal for ponds up to about 1 acre and depths up to 25 feet, running a single airstone diffuser.

Built for the outdoors

A galvanized tower and components are built to hold up in harsh outdoor conditions.
