How does solar pond aeration work?
A solar pond aerator uses panels to run an air compressor that pushes air to a diffuser at the bottom of your pond or dugout. The rising air circulates and oxygenates the water. Because the sun does the work, there is no power line and no electricity bill, which makes solar a strong fit for off-grid and remote sites.
Where does solar aeration make the most sense?
Solar suits sunny sites that want aeration without running a power line, such as acreages, rural dugouts and remote ponds. If your site is more windy than sunny, a windmill may fit better. Do I need electricity for a solar aerator?
No. A solar aeration system runs off its own panels, so no power line or trenching is required. This is the same off-grid advantage as our windmill systems, with the difference that solar draws on sunlight rather than wind. For sites that do have power and want continuous output, we also offer electric aeration.
What happens to solar aeration at night or on cloudy days?
Direct solar systems aerate while the sun is up, and a pond holds dissolved oxygen for a time after. On sites that need more consistent overnight or low-light aeration, owners often pair solar with a battery option or an electric backup.
